Phase Idea competition
Scope of work Conceptual design, 3D modelling and structural calculations
The objective of the Clifton Bridge Idea Competition was to create a new landmark which interacts with the given landscape of the Avon Gorge. The three-dimensional shape of the bridge was generated through the spatial and static interaction of support structure, carriageway and footpath. The main structural support elements are two lower arches, which join in-plane upper arches in the centre of the bridge. There, at the look-out plateau, pedestrians are able to enjoy the astonishing view of the gorge.
